If you are a backpacker, cost of the cheapest motel in the Philippines is 400 pesos (roughly $8) for 12 hours. If you prefer a more decent hotel, you should be able to find 1,500 to 2,000 pesos a night for 2 persons. Meanwhile, 3 to 5-star hotels starts at 2,900 and up a night. This can go cheaper if you know where to look. (We’ll discuss this in our next article)

Food in the Philippines is very cheap. You can buy a full meal for 30 to 100 pesos. If you have more budget, you can already eat a lot with 150 to 200 pesos. If you prefer restaurants, you should be fine with 500 to 1,000 pesos for 2 persons.

But here’s an insider’s tip, there are a lot of buffets in the Philippines and many of them are very cheap. Breakfast buffet starts at 135 pesos while a dinner buffet that serves Filipino dishes starts at 300 pesos.

Transportation in the Philippines

Getting around the city and the country is very cheap. A jeepney ride only costs less than 10 pesos while a bus ride starts at 12 pesos. A taxi ride starts at 40 pesos while a Grab or Uber ride almost has the same rate. You can also opt for an MRT or LRT train ride which costs which starts at 15 pesos.

However, if this is your first time in the Philippines, I recommend going around Manila using Uber or Grab. The transportation in the capital city can be a bit confusing and crowded so it’s not worth saving a few pesos. If you are looking for a private car, I personally recommend Driver Allan as he is a part of LaLP team so he can suggest places to visit, cheaper options and assist you if you have any question.
